Jesup XC girls ranked #4, boys #13 at close of third weekBy Micah Knebel
The Jesup girls finished second and the boys fourth in the South Hardin cross country meet on Sept. 2. Among the girls’ competition was 1A #2-ranked Hudson and 2A #14-ranked Dike-New Hartford.
The boys faced three other ranked competitors: 1A #8-ranked Hudson, 2A #12-ranked Grundy Center/Gladbrook Reinbeck, and 2A #14-ranked East Marshall.
The girls had three top ten finishers: Mackenzie Wilson in second at 20:43, Amanda Treptow in third at 21:21, and Clare Wright in fourth at 21:27.
Nolan Evans finished fourth in the boys’ race with a time of 18:10.
Dick Pollitt Go-Hawk Classic
The teams competed at Wartburg on Sept. 7. There, races were broken up by grade level. The girls faced seven other ranked teams: 1A #2 Hudson, 2A #3 Denver, 3A #8 Center-Point Urbana, 3A #12-ranked Decorah, 3A #13-ranked Waverly-Shell Rock, 3A #15-ranked West Dubuque, and 1A #18 Nashua Plainfield.
The boys also faced seven ranked teams: 3A #5 Decorah, 1A #8 Hudson, 2A #10 Waukon, 3A #10 Center Point Urbana, 3A #11 Waverly-Shell Rock, 2A #12 Grundy Center/Gladbrook Reinbeck, and 2A #13 Denver.
The senior girls took third out of 13 teams. Amanda Treptow was the team’s top ten finisher with a third place finish at 20:13.85.
Sophomores finished 10th out of 13 teams, and freshmen were fifth out of 12 teams. Freshman Mackenzie Wilson finished second at 20:54.09.
The senior boys’ competition took third out of 15 teams. Kile Rottinghaus finished eighth with a time of 17:52.59. Evan Nolan finished 10th at 18:01.28. The freshman and sophomore boys did not place.
Jesup finished seventh out of 12 teams in the seventh grade girls’ competition and third out of nine teams in eighth grade girls’ competition. Seventh grader Jordyn Berman finished 2nd at 10:18.19
The seventh grade boys finished fifth out of 12 teams and the eighth grade boys finished third out of nine. Eighth grader Kaden Lange took third in his race at 9:28.23. Seventh grader Vincent O’Connor finished ninth at 10:42.14.
The teams closed out the week in Monticello on Sept. 11. There, the girls finished fourth and had two top ten finishers: Amanda Treptow in fourth at 19.47 and Mackenzie Wilson in seventh at 19:56. The boys finished tenth overall. Nolan Evans finished fourth for the team with a time of 16:54, his lifetime best and first time breaking under 17 minutes.
The JV girls took fifth out of 10 teams.
Twenty-one of the team’s 26 racers finished the race with either a season or lifetime best.
