Jesup named District Champs, moves on to SubstateBy Micah Knebel
Number 8-ranked Jesup scored a 13-1 takedown against North Fayette Valley (9-22) in their opening baseball game of districts on July 13. The J-Hawks hosted the event and came away with two home run hitters in Brodie Kresser and Brody Clark-Hurlbert. The team totaled 11 RBIs in all including two each from Brevin Dahl, Jack Miller, Gavin Nolan, and Kresser.
The team maneuvered seven stolen bases, 15 putouts, and six strikeouts.
Jesup earned the title of district champions after coming away with a 3-2 win over Waukon (15-16) at home on July 17.
Nate Cagley and Clark-Hurlbert batted in all three runs in the third inning. Runs were scored by Nolan and Kresser. Kresser also threw nine strikeouts.
Jesup faces off against the Denver Cyclones in the state-qualifying event on Tuesday, July 20 at Wartburg’s Hertel Field.
