Bosco opens track season at Belle PlaineBy Micah Knebel
The Don Bosco girls opened their track season with a third place finish out of nine teams at the Belle Plaine Invitational on Mar. 30.
The Dons took first in the 4x200-meter relay (Kendra Nissen, Lauren Kimball, Alaney Kuecker, and Abby Steimel), the 4x400-meter relay (Kendahl Freet, Hanna Schulte, Hannah Thome, and Kendra Nissen), and the 1600-distance medley relay (Josie Hogan, Lakota Moses, Thome, and Schulte). The team took second in the 800-sprint medley relay (Kuecker, Kimball, Steimel, and Nissen).
The team also had a couple of second place finishers in Abby Steimel and Hanna Thome. Steimel took second with her 100-meter dash time of 15.08. Thome finished the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.79.
Caelor Yoder was able to grab points for the Don’s with her fourth place finish in the 100-meter dash. Other scorers were Paige Corkery in fourth in the 200-meter dash, Lakota Moses in fourth in the 1500-meter dash, and Kendahl Freet in fifth in the 400-meter dash. Emily Naughton also grabbed points with her fifth place finish in shot put with a throw of 23-05.00.
Boys At Belle Plaine
It was the boys turn to compete in Belle Plaine just two days later. The Dons tied for fifth with Montezuma on the Apr. 1 event.
Mack Ortner earned first in his 39-02.00 shot put throw and second in the discus with his throw of 100-04.
The team took second in the 4x100-meter relay (Myles McMahon, Ryan Naughton, Foxe Youngblut, and Carson Tenold). They earned third in both the 4x300-meter relay (Wright Hilpipre, Omar Corona, Andrea Guffauti, and Cooper Winter) and the 800-sprint medley relay (McMahon, Naughton, Tenold, and Youngblut).
The 1600-meter relay team (Landon Fernandez, Cedric Yoder, Ryan Hayes, and Coen Bovy) also scored a point with their sixth place finish.
Coen Bovy was the fourth place finisher in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:40.69.
