Mary Lucile (Smith) Loeb
M. Lucile Loeb was born October 10, 1924, and raised in Central City, Iowa. Her parents were Lewis Herman Smith and Mary Alice Gates. She was the fourth of six children, Elbert, Hallie, S. Lacy, Lucile, Lowell, and Grace.
Lucile and Wilbert Loeb married in the Jubilee Lutheran Church on March 16, 1943. Wilbert and Lucile were proud parents of Kenneth Loeb, Dyanna Loeb-Harrigan, Lois Elderkin and Thomas Loeb (DeAnn). Wilbert and Lucile traveled early in their marriage due to “Willie” being a staff sergeant in the Army which included Rhode Island and Oklahoma. After the Army, they settled on their farm 6 miles south of Jesup on Spring Creek Road.
Throughout her life, she excelled at bookkeeping, farming, child rearing and sewing. Lucile was the greatest example of hard work, love and laughter. Her favorite hobbies included knitting/crocheting, dancing, reading, crossword puzzles, bird watching and gardening. Lucile and her family were very active in Jubilee Lutheran Church where she remained a faithful member throughout her entire life.
Lucile was a very proud grandmother of eight grandchildren, Shad Lappe (Candace), Vaughn Radke, Stacy Elderkin (Laurie), Renee Elderkin (Jason Eli), Ryan Loeb (Tonya), Jennifer Loeb, Andrea Loeb-Liccardi, and Cody Loeb (Leah). Great-grandkids (14) include Daulton Lappe, Baylee Holtzman (Trevor Kirkpatrick), Steven Elderkin, Brandon (Olive) Elderkin, Zachariah (Lillie) Evetts, Aubree Evetts, Ashley Watson, Brianna Watson, Kyle Loeb, Tyler Loeb, Averianna Liccardi, Katelynn Liccardi, Tucker Loeb, Lucille Jane Loeb. Great-great-grandkids (5) include Quentin Holtzman, Askyla Elderkin, Cyllian Elderkin, Wesley Watson, and Nikola Watson.
Preceding her in death are Lucile’s husband, Wilbert (1985), her parents, three brothers and one sister. Her surviving sister, Grace, resides on her farm outside of Center Point, Iowa.
Lucile has chosen to donate her body to science. Memorial services will be conducted in Jubilee, Iowa and Corpus Christi, Texas. Lucile has resided at 1701 Thames Drive #102, Corpus Christi, TX 78412 since 2016.
