Jesup wrestlers are back on the mats

The Jesup wrestling team made its return to the mats on Jan. 7 at Union. They took a 27-60 loss against the Knights.

113 lb. Kile Bucknell scored the only pin for the J-Hawks. He took down Union’s Ava Mehlert in 27 seconds.

Jerret Delagardelle scored on a 6-2 decision over Lincoln Mehlert. Union had three forfeits.


On Jan. 9, the J-Hawks competed among 11 teams as part of the Corky Stuart Invitational at BGM. Jesup finished ninth overall with 85 points. Monticello took the top spot with 200 points, followed by West Marshall with 193.

Jerret Delagardelle finished second in the 145 lb. match. He received a bye in the first round and then scored a 1:01 pin against Iowa Valley’s Pierce Kienitz. In the semifinal, Delagardelle took down Tipton’s Kaleb Nerem with a 6-5 decision. He fell to Wapello’s Christopher Ewart in the first place match.

The J-Hawks had three fourth place finishers.

Elliot Kriens fell in the 106 lb. quarterfinal but went on to win the consolation second round with a 1:48 pin and the consolation third round with a decision of 9-4, earning him fourth overall.

113 lb. Kile Bucknell’s fourth place finish came from a consolation semifinal pin of 1:23.

160 lb. Bryce Gleiter took his fourth place finish with a 2:51 pin over Iowa Valley’s Nathanial Miller in the consolation semifinal.

Logan Zuck finished third in the 132 lb. competition. In the first round, he scored a 47 second pin and then a 2:39 pin in the second. In the third, he was pinned by Wapello’s Jacob Chamberlain. Zuck came back in the fourth round to score a 33 second pin of Des Moines Roosevelt’s Anthony Roman.

Dawson Bell finished third in the 138 lb. weight class. Bell finished his first round with a 4:53 pin over Wapello’s Dylan Woodruff.

Wyatt VanderWerff finished fifth at 152 lbs. Tanner Cole finished sixth at 170 lbs. 106 lb. Christian Beau finished seventh. 106 lb. Steel Rolison, 126 lb. Kaleb Zuck, and 132 lb. Connor Even took eighth.
