J-Hawk basketball returns with another strong week

Jesup took on BCLUW in their first basketball game back from winter break. The J-Hawks walked away with a pair of wins in the Jan. 5 match.

In the girls’ game, Jesup (7-1) led BCLUW (3-5) 15-10 at the close of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, BCLUW took the lead 30-23 and kept a four-point led through the third. Jesup powered ahead in the fourth to pull away with a 60-52 victory.

Both Natalie O’Connor and Laney Pilcher ended the night with 18 points. Connor went 4/4 in her three-point shots. Pilcher was 1/1 in her three-point attempts. The team had 38 rebounds, 13 of which came from Pilcher.

The J-Hawk boys (5-3) went on to take down BCLUW (3-4) 68-32. Carson Lienau scored 23 points in the matchup, followed by Brodie Kresser with 18 and Corbin Fuelling with 13. Jase Pilcher and Lienau each had 12 rebounds.

The team totaled 13 steals, including four from Jack Miller. Lienau also had two blocks.

At Charles City

The girls traveled to Charles City on Jan. 7. Jesup took their ninth win of the season with a score of 45-17 over Charles City (2-7).

Jesup’s double-digit scorers were Laney Pilcher with 18 points and Amanda Treptow with 13. The team totaled 38 rebounds, 15 steals, and 10 assists. Natalie O’Connor led the team with five steals. Kylie Winter and Treptow each had one block.

Against Union

The next night was senior night. Jesup hosted Union and came away with another win for both the girls and boys.

The Jesup girls took down Union (1-7) 48-28. Jesup’s top scorers were Amanda Treptow with 15 points, Alexis Larson with 11, and Laney Pilcher with nine. Pilcher led the team with 10 of its 33 rebounds and also had five of its 11 steals. Jacie Lange and Pilcher each had three of the team’s 13 assists.

The boys finished ahead 76-55 over Union (3-5). Jesup had four double-digit scorers with Carson Lienau netting 22 points, Brodie Kresser 16, Parker McHone 14, and Corbin Fuelling 10. Lienau had 13 of the team’s 37 rebounds. Kresser had 6 of the team’s 18 assists and three of the team’s 7 steals.

The girls ended the week ranked #12 in class 2A.
