Howe It’s Done shows how it’s doneBy Cheryl Parker
When Kerrie Howe found out the building right off of the Highway 20 Jesup exit was available, she knew she’d found the perfect setting for her photography studio.
The building was formerly occupied by Bower’s Best Discount Store, and is located at 2338 Benson Shady Grove Avenue.
Prior to September, 2020, Howe had been operating Howe It’s Done Photography Studio out of her home in Quasqueton, doing photo shoots on location, or renting Quasqueton City Hall when she needed an indoor setting. She began operating out of her Jesup location in October.
Howe does family and boudoir photography. She does lots of family, senior, engagement, and maternity photos. Her motto is, “Capturing Memories that Last a Lifetime,” and she is happy to travel to indoor or outdoor locations. She has many indoor backdrops for holidays and special occasions. Her new location has some good options for outdoor shots as well. Howe says, because of the stress level, the only occasions she will not do are weddings and newborn photos.
Something in the works for this summer is a large photo shoot of classic cars and boudoir photography, with a resulting calendar or other options. Details are still coming together.
Howe has strong feelings about her boudoir division: “These are NOT nude photos. The purpose of a boudoir session is to build self-esteem, self-confidence. It brings a woman out of her shell and enables her to be comfortable with herself.” She advises her client to wear anything that she wants to wear and feels comfortable in.
Howe explains the word boudoir is French for “Woman’s Closet,” and she has a large selection of lingerie in her studio closet, as well as 26 pairs of shoes! She is constantly adding accessories; her most recent addition is eyelash extensions. She meets with her clients before the shoot where they go over posing, lighting, etc., and reassures them, “This is going to be fun!”
Howe says, “I’m a plus size photographer, and I’d like to think my specialty is plus size clients.” Howe did some price checking in the area and is confident her clients will find her prices are very affordable. She has a hair and makeup artist for all boudoir sessions included in the price.
The success of her boudoir photos has brought about a demand for a “dude-oir” session for men. Her first client is a construction worker. He is bringing his hard hat and tool belt. Howe notes Valentine’s Day will be here before you know it – the time to book a session is now.
