Care and Share for the holidays
The Jesup Knights of Columbus Council #8227 is asking the entire Jesup community for their support of this year’s Care and Share program.

The goal is to help families in need with essentials during the holiday season. The Knights of Columbus obtain the names of qualified families from Operation Threshold of Buchanan and Black Hawk Counties in the communities of Jesup, Littleton, Brandon and Gilbertville.

The students at St. Athanasius and Jesup Community Schools are collecting non-perishable food items and personal hygiene products. Items that are most in need and not always available at the food bank/pantry are: shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, soup, and boxed mixes.

At St. Athanasius, the class that brings in the most items (per student) wins a donut party.

At Jesup Community School the Character Development and Leadership class is in charge of organizing the Care and Share Food Drive. This year, students are making it a competition between homerooms. The winning elementary classroom and middle school homeroom will be given a donut party, courtesy of the Character Development and Leadership class.

The goal for the high school is to collect 1,500 items. Last year, students collected 1,066.

The middle school goal is 600 items. Last year, they collected 336 items.

The elementary goal is 800 items. Last year, they collected 662 items.

Community drop-off locations are at the Jesup Public Library, Jesup Post Office and St. Athanasius Church main entrance.

The items can be dropped off until Friday, December 11.

On Saturday, December 12, care and share boxes are packed at the St. Athanasius gym and delivered by the Knights of Columbus and their families. Social distancing guidelines will be followed. Any excess items will be donated to the Independence Food Pantry.
