Jesup volleyball 10-2, earns back #10 ranking

#10 ranked Jesup J-Hawks competed against Clayton Ridge and Maquoketa Valley as part of the Clayton Ridge volleyball triangular on Sept. 1. Jesup walked away with a pair of wins, taking down both teams in just two matches.

Alexis Harris led Jesup with 24 assists against Clayton Ridge and 23 assists against Maquoketa Valley. Jesup had 22 kills over Clayton Ridge’s ten and was led by Kendra McCombs with 3.5 kills and four points. Bobbi Thomas had the most kills in the Maquoketa game with 4, earning the team six points.

The now #11 J-Hawks suffered their second loss of their season to #3 Dike-New Hartford (DNH) in their Sept. 8 bout. It was Jesup’s first conference game of the season and was also senior night.

The teams went three rounds with DNH leading 25-11, 25-13, and 25-17. Alexis Harris had 11 of Jesup’s 20 assists. Leah Becker had the team’s two blocks. Jesup scored two aces and had a 92.5% serve effective rate.

Jesup, moving back to their #10 ranking, hosted the Jesup Volleyball Classic on Sept. 12. The J-Hawks took down all four opponents 2-0, earning them the tournament win.

They went up against Central Elkader (0-7), North Linn (5-5), Alburnett (3-8), and South Winneshiek (0-8).
