Don Bosco takes on South Winneshiek in State opener

Don Bosco started its run at state on July 24 against 25-1 South Winneshiek. Bosco, 17-1, scored their first run with a home run hit by Cael Frost right at the start of the first inning. South Winneshiek came back with their own run at the bottom of the first inning, tying the game.

The next points didn’t come until the fifth with Charlie Hogan, first to bat, making a quick advance from first to third with third batter Frost at bat. Frost made it to first on a walk. Myles McMahon was the next batter up. McMahon landed a center hit, allowing both Hogan and Frost to score. McMahon advanced to second.

Neither team was able to score again, giving the Dons the 3-1 victory.

Lewis Havel was the pitcher for the full game. Havel only allowed four hits and two walks in South Winneshiek’s 24 times at bat. He threw ten strikeouts.

The Dons move on to the state semifinal on Thursday, July 30. They will play 16-2 Kingsley-Pierson at 10:30 am at Principal Park.
