Jesup softball undefeated, baseball earns third winBy Micah Knebel
The #5 ranked Jesup softball team shut out Clayton Ridge on June 18. The J-Hawks finished 15-0 against the Eagles. Senior Kristin Sadler batted in two RBIs, two doubles, and a triple. Fellow senior Jenna Jensen and junior Kendra McCombs batted in three runs each. Senior pitcher Zoe Miller threw three strikeouts.
The J-Hawk softball team had another landslide victory on June 23. The team continued their undefeated season with a 12-0 takedown of Belle Plaine at the Jesup field. Jenna Jensen and Alexis Larson each tallied a home run. Larson, a sophomore, batted four runs in for the J-Hawks. Jensen followed with three RBIs, followed by Jacie Lange with two. Zoe Miller, Kendra McCombs, and Hailey Nie each had one RBI. Zoe Miller threw four strikeouts.
Jesup vs. Union
Jesup softball and baseball hosted Union on June 24. The Jesup girls were ahead 4-0 at the end of the second inning. Union responded by scoring two runs in the third. By the sixth, Jesup added another six runs to the scoreboard, bringing the game 10-2. Union rallied to land another five runs in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to take down the J-Hawks who won the game 10-7. Jenna Jensen had one home run and four total RBIs. The team had seven stolen bases including two each from Zoe Miller and Hailey Nie.
In baseball, Jesup was the first to score with two runs at the bottom of the first. Union overcame them by a point in the third, but Jesup scored another seven runs by the end of the fifth. While Union was able to bring home another run in the sixth, the J-Hawks were the ones to take the final win and seal the night’s second J-Hawk with a final score of 9-4. Pitcher Brodie Kresser had eight strikeouts in the four innings. Kresser also scored three runs and stole bases twice. The team had six RBIs: two each from Gavin Nolan and Cole Oberbroeckling and one each from Jase Pilcher and Bryce Gleiter.
