Jesup takes pair of wins against Sailors, Knights
The J-Hawk girls earned their second basketball win of the season against Columbus, this time in a 52-29 victory on Feb. 3. Brittany Lingenfelter led the J-Hawks in scoring with 15 points, followed by Amanda Treptow with 13. Lingenfelter was two for three in three-point attempts and five for eight in her free-shot attempts. Payton McHone led the team with eight of the team’s 24 rebounds. McHone had two steals. Lingenfelter had another four.

It was an exciting night for the boys. Jesup was up by one at halftime. By the third, Columbus had moved into a three-point advantage. As the clocked ticked down to the final seconds of the game, with the J-Hawks now down by two, Cooper Fuelling landed a three-point shot, giving the team a 44-43 victory and their fourth win of the season.

Fuelling had 24 points overall with two successful three-point attempts. Parker McHone, who landed three three-point shots, gave the J-Hawks 11 points. Other scorers were Landon Borrett with four points, Jase Pilcher with three, and Tanner Cole with two.

At Aplington-Parkersburg

In their makeup game against Aplington-Parkersburg on Feb. 4, the girls led 33-24 at the half. By the third, they had advanced to an 18-point lead. The teams both scored 17 points in the final quarter, giving Jesup a 63-48 overall victory.

The J-Hawks had four double-digit scorers with Payton McHone landing 21 points, Amanda Treptow 15, and Brittany and Brianna Lingenfelter each scoring 11. Allison Flaharty also added four points to the board. Laney Pilcher landed a free throw shot.

The boys fell 43-81. Landon Borrett was the leading J-Hawk scorer with 19 points, followed by Carson Lienau with eight, Jase Pilcher and Parker McHone with five each, Cooper Fuelling with four, and Corbin Fuelling with two.

Against Union

On Feb. 7, the Jesup girls earned their second victory of the season against Union. They took the win with a final score of 54-34, moving their season record to 16-4.

Just a few weeks prior, the Jesup boys had fallen to Union by just three points. The boys’ second matchup proved to be another tight game. At the end of the first quarter, Union held the lead by three points. By the second, Jesup had pushed to a 10-point lead. In the final half, Union was able to break down that lead but was ultimately unable to overcome the J-Hawks who closed out the week with their fifth win of the season with a score of 52-48.

Carson Lienau led in scoring with 12 points, followed by Landon Borrett with 10, Corbin Fuelling with nine, Cooper Fuelling and Parker McHone with eight each, Jase Pilcher with three, and Tanner Cole with two. Landon Borrett had 12 of the team’s 35 rebounds.
