‘The Giving Spirit’ welcomes donationsLast year about 30 families and 46 children were given assistance by The Giving Spirit of Jesup.
The Giving Spirit coordinates efforts to provide Christmas for the children of the Jesup/St. Athanasius School systems whose families may not be able to provide.
Anonymous tags are now available at Farmers State Bank and BankIowa. The tags describe the recipient’s sizes and interests, so gift ideas are provided.
People are encouraged to stop by and choose one or more tags from the trees. Each tag has four categories: Something kids “want,” “need,” “to wear,” and “to read.”
Shoppers can purchase 1-4 gifts for the child and then return the UNWRAPPED gifts to the place they picked up the tag by Thursday, December 5. It’s very important that the tag with the identifying number is also included with the returned gifts.
If anyone is unable to do the shopping, monetary donations will also be accepted. Direct them to “Giving Spirit,” P.O. Box 568, Jesup, Iowa 50648, or drop them off at BankIowa.
Donations are used to shop for names that aren’t taken and to “even up” the number of presents among children in the same family.
Organizers of The Giving Spirit include: Toni Powell, Kathy Schutte, Vicki Staebell, Mary Steuben, Teri Schares, Adele Reinhart, Dorthea Bovy, Stacey Conrad, and Dawn Quackenbush. There are many other people who work with them to make The Giving Spirit successful, by shopping, wrapping, and more.
The Giving Spirit is not a 501c3 non-profit, but is a worthwhile, local charitable organization acting on the true meaning of Christmas.
