Marcella Potthoff
Marcella Potthoff was born on March 12, 1926 to Albertus and Hulda DeNeui in Clay Township of Hardin County, IA. Marcella spent her early years on the family farm and attended the country school. Later she moved to Lakota, IA to live with her sister, Johanna, and Johanna’s husband, Elso Jansen. It was there she met her husband, Raymond Potthoff, a neighbor. They were wed on October 20, 1945 at the Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock, IA and blessed with one child, Patsy Rae.
Soon after they were married, they moved to Eldora, IA. In 1952 they moved to Jesup, IA where they resided until 2003. Marcella was a homemaker throughout her life. Ray and Marcella would often be found camping, doing crafts, jigsaw puzzles, search-a-word, fishing and gardening.

For health reasons they moved to Waterloo, IA; and later Indianola, IA. While in Indianola, she received a Good Samaritan’s Volunteer of the Year Award for her help at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Marcella then chose to live closer to her daughter in Des Moines, IA. Marcella’s health issues required her to then reside at Regency Health Care in Norwalk, IA.

Marcella passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Regency Care Center. She was 93 years of age. Her daughter, Patsy and Gary (son-in-law) were at her bedside.
She is survived by her daughter, Patsy (Gary) Linnevold of Des Moines; step-grandchildren, Murray (Khrista) Linnevold of Portage, WI; and Nichole (Kevin) Borchardt of Bradenton, FL. Marcella is also survived by her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, many friends and the Linnevold family.
