Girls have an active first week
‘The Jesup softball team’s season was off to a busy start. On May 22, Jesup played Sumner-Fredericksburg in a double-header season opener, securing victories at both games.

In their first matchup, they won 9-5. Sumner-Fredericksburg scored the first run of the game in the first inning, but Jesup was able to turn the tide by the third. Alexus Jensen hit a homer as well as a double. Zoe Miller and Breanne Fischels also hit doubles. Zoe Miller, Alexus Jensen, and Carley Pint scored two runs each. Kristin Sadler, Andrea Gibbs, and Jacie Lange each scored one run. Rhianna Bigwood pitched twelve strikeouts in the game.

Their second win was a closer one with a final score of 5-3. Jesup scored two runs in the first inning and was able to keep Sumner-Fredericksburg from points on the board until the sixth inning. Alexus Jensen hit a triple and Kristin Sadler a double. Kristen Sadler batted in three runs. Alexus Jensen and Andrea Gibbs batted in one run. Payton Mchone managed to steal two bases during her play on the field. Pitcher Alexis Vander Werff had seven strikeouts in the game.

On May 24, Jesup traveled to Gilbertville to play Don Bosco. The team took home another victory, defeating the Dons 12-3. The scoring game for Jesup took off in the fourth inning where they scored four runs. Home runs were hit by Jenna Jensen and Alexus Jensen. Alexus Jensen hit four runs in and Jenna Jensen hit two in. Zoe Miller, Andrea Gibbs, Rhianna Bigwood, Kristin Sadler, Jacie Lange, and Breanne Fischels each hit one run in. Runs were scored by Zoe Miller, Jenna Jensen, Andrea Gibbs, Alexus Jensen, Kristin Sadler, Jacie Lange, Breanne Fischels, Jeryn Loyd, and Hailey Nie. Pitcher Rhianna Bigwood had seven strikeouts in seven innings.

On May 26, the girls played three games as part of the Jesup Classic. Their first matchup against North Linn was a loss of 0-10. Jenna Jensen, Rhianna Bigwood, and Jacie Lange each had a hit. Rhianna Bigwood pitched five strikeouts during the game.

Jesup scored a victory in their second competition matchup against Janesville, winning 8-4. The score was neck-and-neck at the end of the first inning, but Jesup was able to keep their momentum going. Zoe Miller pitched with seven strikeouts and only five hits.

Zoe Miller, Jenna Jensen, Rhianna Bigwood, Alexus Jensen, Kristen Sadler, and Carley Pint each hit doubles. Andrea Gibbs, Rhianna Bigwood, Alexus Jensen, Kristin Sadler, and Carley Pint each batted one run in.

They lost their third matchup of the day against Kee High of Lansing, 3-7. Carley Pint hit one run in and Andrea Gibbs had a double play. The runs were scored by Zoe Miller, Alexus Jensen, and Kristin Sadler.
