Earl E. Schmit
JESUP – Earl E. Schmit, 66 years old of Jesup, IA, died Sunday, December 17, 2017, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. - Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA, with Rev. Jeffrey A. Dole as celebrant. Music was by Leah Reiter, Mick Staebell, Gerry Staebell, Monica Bengston and the St. Athanasius Choir. Burial was at St. Athanasius Cemetery, Jesup. Casket Bearers were Brian Schmit, Steve Schmit, Luke Schmit, Eric Schmit, Jeremy Schmit, Casey Schmit, Nicole Weber, Justin Becker, Paige Selby and Deb Webber. Visitation was from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there was a 4:00 p.m., Knights of Columbus Rosary and a 6:00 p.m., Vigil Service. Earl was born February 21, 1951, in Waterloo, IA, the son of Lawrence Jacob Schmit and Mildred (Schares) Schmit. He graduated from Jesup High School with the Class of 1970. On June 3, 1978, he was united in marriage to Cindy Joan Nagel at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup. Earl worked on the assembly line at John Deere in Waterloo. He was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus Council 8227 in Jesup and UAW Local 838 in Waterloo.

Earl is survived by his wife Cindy; one daughter, Danielle Schmit; and one son Adam Schmit; all of Jesup; also six brothers, LeRoy (Joan) Schmit, Cleo (Evelyn) Schmit, Neil (Patti) Schmit, Duane (Annette) Schmit, Alfred (Lisa) Schmit, Clyde (Brenda) Schmit, all of Jesup; two sisters, Audrey (Brad) Huff and Mary Ann Schmit of Marion, IA; also, a sister-in-law, Janie Schmit and his mother-in-law, Marlys Nagel both of Jesup. His parents; one brother, Ernie Schmit; one sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Jack Weber, and his father-in-law, Paul Nagel; preceded him in death.
