It was another terrific week for the Don Bosco Boys Basketball team, as the Dons finished off the week with four victories.
On Feb. 6, Don Bosco defeated Gladbrook-Reinbeck by the score of 76-66, in a non-conference game played at Gilbertville. The win capped off a wonderful week for the high-flying Don Bosco team.
Nick Rosauer led Don Bosco in scoring with 22 points, as he continues with his outstanding play, since the second part of the season. Brandon Delagardelle followed with 15 points. Eric Nie scored 14 points, and Nate Springer had 10 points.
Zach Frost added 9 points. Chris Schares and Andrew Reiter had 4 points and 2 points respectively.
In an earlier games last week, Don Bosco defeated Dunkerton by the score of 69 to 48 at Dunkerton, in a make-up Iowa Star Conference game, on Feb. 1.
The Dons scored 39 points in the first half, and followed with 30 points in the second half.
Zach Frost led Don Bosco in scoring with 20 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. Zach added an assist and 3 blocked shots. Brandon Delagardelle followed with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a blocked shot.
Nate Springer and Nick Rosauer scored 8 points each. Nate had a rebound and 3 assists, while Nick had 2 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal.
Justin Nie had a good night off the bench with 6 points and 4 rebounds. Andrew Reiter also scored 6 points, and he had 2 rebounds.
Chris Schares had 4 points and 2 rebounds. Eric Nie added 2 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Austin Schmit scored 3 points to go along with 2 rebounds and a steal. Jacob Vandenbos added a single point, a rebound, 3 assists, and a steal.
As a team, Don Bosco was 30 of 62 from the field for 48%. The Dons had 40 team rebounds.
On Feb. 2, Don Bosco was blazing hot, as they raced past North Tama by the score of 84-55, in a conference game played at Gilbertville.
The Dons had five players score in double figures, as the team was running well on all cylinders. Don Bosco scored 46 points in the first half, and the Dons added 38 points in the second half.
Nate Springer led Don Bosco in scoring with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals – a complete game. Eric Nie followed with 16 points, and 8 rebounds. He hit four 3-pointers.
Nick Rosauer scored 15 points, to go along with 3 rebounds and 7 assists. Zach Frost had 13 points and 13 rebounds, for another double-double. Zach had 2 assists.
Brandon Delagardelle added 11 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and a block. Brandon was 5 of 5 from the free throw line. Chris Schares scored 7 points. He had a rebound and an assist. Jacob Vandenbos had 2 points, and Justin Nie chipped in with a single point.
As a team, Don Bosco was 31-63 from the field, 15 of 20 from the free throw line, and 7 of 13 from 3-point range. The Dons had 42 rebounds, and 24 assists, which is excellent.
On Feb. 5, Don Bosco escaped with a 64-57 win over GMG, in a conference game played at Gilbertville. GMG scorched the nets early, as the Wolverines took a quick 14-0 lead, 4:15 into the game. GMG extended the lead to 19-2, before the Don Bosco team woke up.
The Wolverines led 22-7 at the end of the first quarter, as they hit on four 3-pointers in the first quarter alone. Needless to say, Don Bosco Head Coach Joel Schares was not thrilled at all with the way the Dons were playing.
He told the team, “We were pathetic on defense and offense in the first quarter, and we need to straighten things out now.”
Don Bosco did respond to those comments with a 22-point second quarter, but GMG still led 37-29 at halftime. The Dons scored the first 8 points of the third quarter to tie the game at 37-37. Don Bosco finally wrested the lead away in the final quarter, for the victory, as GMG was a little bit off on their outside shooting in the fourth quarter.
Zach Frost led Don Bosco with 15 points and 6 rebounds. He blocked 2 shots. Nate Springer and Nick Rosauer followed with 14 points each. Nate had 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal. Nick had 3 rebounds and 3 assists. He hit 4 of 7 three-pointers.
Eric Nie scored 11 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Eric was 3 of 5 from 3-point range. Brandon Delagardelle had 5 points, a rebound, 5 assists, a steal, and a blocked shot.
Jacob Vandenbos and Austin Schmit scored 2 points each, and Chris Schares chipped in with a point.
Don Bosco is now 19-1 overall, and 16-l, as their brilliant season continues. The Dons played at Tripoli, Feb. 8, in the final regular season game. They will face Dunkerton in the first round of the Class 1A Boys District Tournament, at Gilbertville, on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 7 PM. |
