JESUP – Helen R. Emick, 86 years old of the Grandview Care Center, Oelwein, IA, and formerly of Eldora and Marshalltown, IA, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at the care center, following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be held 7 PM, Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup.
Mrs. Emick was born June 16, 1923, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Myron Fischer and Sybil Rose (Melaney) Fischer. Following her graduation from high school she attended business college in Minneapolis. On November 25, 1947, she was united in marriage to Robert Ernst Emick in Minneapolis. He preceded her in death in September 1989. Before her retirement, Mrs. Emick worked as secretary and bookkeeper at the Selective Service office in Eldora, and at the Social Security Administration office in Marshalltown.
Mrs. Emick is survived by one son, Kraig (Karen) Emick of Jesup; two grandsons, Kristopher (Kristi) Emick of Ankeny, and Kirk Emick of Oxford, MS; and one great-granddaughter, Mya Emick. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Marian “Peg” Purdy. |
