Hog Wild Winners in Jesup!
Published in the Citizen Herald Nov. 4, 2009

Jesup really was “HOG WILD” last Saturday, with people signing up for prizes and enjoying free and delicious pork food products right here in town.

Jesup business men and women said they have never seen anything like it for drawing this big of a crowd into their businesses! Traffic was heavy and the lines were long.

B&B Farm Store served over 700 people, and had 450 register for their prizes of free pork loins given away every hour. There were so many people, the prize loins were used for serving, and more loins had to be ordered to give away.

ECIC had over 175 prize registrations by early Saturday morning; they were giving away two processed half-hogs.

The prize registration box at Spahn & Rose was stuffed full with sign-up slips, and there were plenty of people stopping in at Birdnows to look at vehicles and sign up for free oil changes.

The lines of cars at the banks were two and three across, reaching into the street outside the banks’ drive-up windows.

Farmers State Bank had 167 people sign up.

Sherry Kite at BankIowa said, “Hog Wild Days went great! I think it brought a lot of people in that we probably wouldn’t normally see on a Saturday morning.”

The Citizen Herald was hopping also, as employees rushed to help customers register for a prize and take advantage of a subscription special. There were 125 people signed up within three hours!

Schares Food Mart owner Steve Foster said he’d never seen a promotion bring so many people into his store.

“This was a great event,” said Farmers Wife owner Pat McIntosh. “Jesup is a great little town and I hope we do more events like this in the future. It was great to see people just walk in.”

It’s pretty clear that the Jesup community loves their pork, and strongly supports their pork producers and hometown businesses!

Prize Winners
Iowa Pork Producers gave away a grill gift package which included $50 in pork coupons, a cooler, recipes and oven mitt, apron and cap. Belle Boyer of Jesup was the winner.

“I love bacon!” exclaimed Belle when she learned she had won the prize. “I’ll use the bag for yarn at prayer shawl at church.”

The Citizen Herald gave away a “Three Little Pigs” gift bag for children, and was won by Monica Sabin of Jesup.

Birdnow Chevrolet gave away free oil changes and had six winners. They are Carolyn Ackerman, Diane and John Miller, Dorothy Crowell, Lacie Trees, Dorothy Krusemark and David Voigts.

Schares Food Mart held a drawing every hour for a free $25 gift card to be used toward the purchase of pork products at the store. Winners were John Bergman, Monica Bengston, Melvin Weber, Charlene Youngblut, Roland Riensche, Neil Schmit and Ramona Schuler. There was one more winner, but that person claimed their prize before their name could be documented.

Big success
“The Hog Wild Day in Jesup recently was a tribute to not only all of the businesses in our community that believe in Jesup by locating here, and all the wonderful things that this community can offer to everyone who lives and visits here,” said Todd Rohlfsen at Farmers State Bank, “but it’s also a tribute to our surrounding agricultural community and farmers, who along with the retail sector of our community, make the town of Jesup a ‘Great Place to Live!’”

With Hog Wild’s great response, you can be sure there will be another event next year!
