Michelle Marsh shot an excellent 104 for 18 holes, as she led the Jesup Girls Golf team in the Class 2A Districts last week.

The meet was held at the Town and Country Club in Nashua, on May 18.

Sumner-Fredericksburg won the team championship with a low team total score of 430.

Hudson followed with a team score of 445.

Both teams advance to Class 2A Regional play this week at Oak Leaf Country Club, at Reinbeck.

The top five individuals that advance on to Regionals are Alison Koch of Hudson a 96, Kara Larson of Sumner-Fredericksburg 98, Michelle Marsh of Jesup 104, Hannah Kaus of Hudson a 106, Stephanie DeLau and Becca Mohling of Sumner-Fredericksburg with a 107 each.

Six girls, rather than five will advance.

Jesup team scores were - Michelle Marsh 55-49 = 104, Olivia Hemmer 67-61 =118, and Katelyn Chamberlin 72-60 = 132.

Michelle Marsh will play in the Regionals this week.

Jesup Coach Pat Winblade remarked, “I am very, very proud of Michelle, and happy for her. She played an average first round, but came back for a tremendous second round. Michelle is the only golfer in the group advancing to Regionals, that is not a member of the two teams advancing.

Coach Winblade continued, “I am disappointed for Katelyn Chamberlin. She and I both knew she was capable of advancing on from this meet. Katelyn’s game just didn’t play out for her as expected.”

Winblade added, “As a senior, and a faithful and hard working team member for four years, I was really hoping that she could move on.”

She concluded, “Olivia Hemmer was pretty much on target with her game. She has posted better scores, but she did a fine job for these conditions.”

With the high winds, all of the coaches felt that most likely the scores would be a little higher than normal. But everyone was playing in the same conditions. It took a lot of concentration and focus to post decent scores.

Weather conditions were bright, sunny, cool, and very, very windy.

The course was in great shape at Nashua, with rolling fairways and greens.
