Jesup girls to open golf season
With the nice weather we experienced in mid-March, the Jesup Girls’ Golf team has been able to get in some special practice time.
The J-Hawks were able to practice outside every day, the first week.
Jesup Coach Pat Winblade remarked, “We got started later — March 16, but we have had quality time on the Jesup Golf Course.”
Numbers are limited this year for the team.
Senior Katelyn Chamberlin heads the team in her 4th year of play.
Juniors are Michelle Marsh, 3rd year; and Olivia Hemmer, 3rd year.
Newcomers to the team are Patricia Maines, 1st year; Kelli Oliver, 1st year; and Kirsten Nichols, 1st year. Those three girls are sophomores.
There are no freshmen on the team.
Jesup will host Gladbrook-Reinbeck in a Boy/Girl Meet at the Jesup Golf and Country Club, on Monday, April 6. Starting time will be 4:15 PM.
On Tuesday, April 7, Jesup will host the Hudson Pirates in another Boy/Girls Meet at Jesup. Starting time is 4:15 PM. That meet was moved up from April 17.
Practice underway for Jesup boys’ golf
Preseason practice has begun for the Jesup Boys’ Golf Team.
The J-Hawks have been able to practice outside all week, with a couple of days quite cold and windy.
Coach Tom Klein welcomed four letterwinners back to this year’s team.
Players on the team roster include seniors Shawn Even, Justin ‘Pete’ Rohlfsen, and Alan Schares; juniors Zach Davies and Justin Kerkove; sophomores Ben Augustine, Noah Brown, Michael Corkery, and Ethan Mangrich; and freshmen joining the team this year are Colin Becker, Bryan Close, Luke Knutson, Cody Marsh, and Peter Steuben.
Coach Klein remarked, “We have some incoming freshmen that could challenge for some spots on the team this year.”
He continued, “With time practicing, and some consistent scores, we should be competitive at Jesup.”
The NICL (East) Conference looks to be solid again this year. Denver and NU High of Cedar Falls return everyone but one player each.
The conference meet will be held at La Porte City later this year, and the Sectionals will be held at Backbone Golf and Country Club near Strawberry Point.
Coach Klein is hoping for some weather to get the season underway.
Jesup will host Gladbrook-Reinbeck in a Boy/Girl Meet on Monday, April 6, at the Jesup Golf and Country Club. Starting time for the meet will be 4:15 PM.
