Jesup girls take 5th at Conference track

Despite fielding an injury and illness riddled team, the Jesup High Girls’ Track squad finished fifth in the Annual NICL (East) Conference Track Meet last week.

The J-Hawks had 62 team points.

The event was held at Hudson on April 28.

Jesup Head Coach Lisa Loecher remarked, “It has been a rough week for our team. Tessa Westpfahl pulled a hamstring, and was unable to run at all. Erica Soppe had an injury to her heel, causing us to weaken in the 400M Hurdles, and the 4x400 Relay.”

Coach Loecher continued, “The flu bug has affected some members of the team. We did have some good news. Our Shuttle Hurdle Team won the conference for the first time in my 18 years with the team here at Jesup.”

In the events that the J-Hawks did enter in the conference meet, Kortni Oliver finished fourth in the 400M Dash in a time of 1:04.20.

Shana Kester took fourth in the 100M Hurdles in a time of 16.60 seconds.
In the 400M Hurdles, freshman Autumn Vogel captured third place with a time of 1:15.34.

Kelley Klein finished fourth in the 800M Run in a time of 2:32.13.

Morgan Westpfahl of Jesup won the 1500M Run with a time of 5:20.75.

Coach Loecher said, “Morgan ran a tremendous race to win the 1500. She is really coming on late in the season. She now has confidence she can win, and it shows on the track.”

Brittany Bunger took fifth place in the 1500M Run, with a time of 5:33.64.
Brittany also ran in the 3000M Run, and finished fourth in a time of 11:56.04, her fastest time of the season.

Courtney Frush place sixth in the Long Jump, with a leap of 13’6”.

In the High Jump, Autumn Vogel placed fourth with a jump of 4’6”, and Rae Debner was sixth with a jump of 4’4”.

Kelsey Clayton of Jesup had her personal best heave in the Shot Put at 29.65 feet.

Jesup finished fifth in both the 4x100M Relay and the 4x200M Relay.
In the 4x100M Relay, Shana Kester, Natalie Schares, Hannah Steuben, and Kayla Mangrich comprised the team that ran in a time of 57.85 seconds.

In the 4x200, the J-Hawks ran a time of 2:02.02. Natalie Schares, Kayla Mangrich, Cori Noble, and Liz Vogel made up the team.

Jesup finished third in the 4x800M Relay, with a time of 10:28.66. Erica Kite, Morgan Westpfahl, Kortni Oliver, and Kelley Klein ran for Jesup.

The J-Hawks’ Distance Medley Relay team was sixth in a time of 4:44.37. Erica Soppe, Tessa Westpfahl, Erica Kite, and Alicia Soppe comprised the team.

The Sprint Medley Relay team for Jesup was sixth in a time of 2:07.47. Natalie Schares, Kelli Oliver, Cori Noble, and Alicia Soppe ran for the J-Hawks.

Good news – Jesup won the Shuttle Hurdle Relay in a time of 1:08.44. Tessa Westpfahl, Autumn Vogel, Kierston Nichols, and Shana Kester made up the team.

On May 1, Jesup ran in the Aplington-Parkersburg Invitational at Parkersburg.

The J-Hawks took third place with a team total of 65 points. The meet was won by the Denver Cyclones with a team total of 123 points. North Fayette was second with 77 points.

Brittany Bunger finished second in the 3000M Run in a time of 11:55.18. Kayla Zuck of Jesup was third with a time of 12:29.05.

In the 4x800M Relay, Jesup took third place in a time of 10:08.51. Kelley Klein, Morgan Westpfahl, Kortni Oliver, and Alicia Soppe made up the team for Jesup.

The Shuttle Hurdles Team for Jesup was third, with a time of 1:11.43.  Stacey Kayser, Autumn Vogel, Kierston Nichols, and Shana Kester comprised the team for the J-Hawks.

Erica Soppe was fourth in the 100M Dash in a time of 13.96 seconds.

The Distance Medley Relay team was fourth with a time of 4:33.91. Erica Soppe, Natalie Schares, Autumn Vogel, and Erica Kite ran for Jesup.

Stacey Kayser was fifth and Shana Kester was sixth in the 100M Hurdles. Their times were 17.05 and 17.15 respectively.

Kelley Klein placed third in the 800M Run in a time of 2:28.95. The time is Kelley’s personal best time in the event, as she broke the 2:30 barrier.

Morgan Westpfahl ran an awesome race in the 1500M Run to win first place in the event, with a time of 5:13.80.

Brittany Bunger was fourth in the race with a time of 5:28.29.

In the final event of the evening for Jesup, the J-Hawks took fourth place in the 4x400M Relay in a time of 4:21.16.

Erica Soppe, Kortni Oliver, Erica Kite, and Kelley Klein made up the team that ran for Jesup.

Jesup ran in the Denver Relays at Denver on May 5.

The J-Hawks will run in the Girls’ Regionals at Cascade, on Saturday, May 10. Starting time will be 10 AM.
