The Jesup City Hall Citizen’s committee has been meeting to float ideas for the new city hall’s space needs. We have presented these ideas to the architect, Tom Gardner, and he will put those ideas on paper for us to see what kind of total space needs we would have.
We have not yet seen a draft of that footprint. The architect feels it is important to consider the merits of the various sites that were suggested by the committee earlier in our discussions. Those sites are the current lot where the city hall sat, the site of the old Baptist Church, the location of Hanson’s Locker, and the location of Hawkeye Tool and Die at the corner of 7th and Young St.
The citizen’s committee will meet again on Thursday, May 8, at 7 PM at the library community room to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each of those sites. We will pass the results of our discussion on to the architect and the city council.
These meetings are open to everyone and all comments are welcome. Anyone who wishes to give input is encouraged to be present. There is no need to feel like you are obliged to become a member of the committee to give us the benefit of your opinions.
