AMES – On March 18 the Jesup High Boys’ Track team ran at the Indoor Track Meet at Iowa State University at Ames to open the season.
Jesup took 17 boys to the meet, which virtually comprises the Varsity team.
There were several teams represented at the meet, and all classes were mixed together, thus there were excellent competitors in each event.
In the 3200 Meter Run, Colin Weber placed 73rd with a time of 11:49. Ryan Miller of Jesup placed 79th in a time of 12:14, in a field of 103 runners.
Brian Zuck finished 135th in the 60M Dash, with a time of 7.97, and Kodi Mozingo was 143rd with a time of 8.06. There were 174 runners in the event alone.
Jesup did well in the 4x800 Relay, by finishing 27th out of 64 teams, in a time of 9:01.
Freshman Trey Versluis, sophomore Mitch Roberts, and seniors Louis Bergman and Jacob Wright made up the relay team.
In the 400M Dash, freshman Brady Mattson took 57th place with a time of 56.31, and Louis Bergman was 73rd in a time of 57.55. There were 127 runners in the event.
In the 1600M Run, Mitch Roberts of Jesup took 51st place with a time of 5:06, and Ben Harting was 102nd in a time of 5:51, in a field of 112 runners.
The Distance Medley Relay Team for Jesup ran well by placing 22nd in a field of 61 teams, with a time of 3:55.
Ethan Pelton, Matt Mattson, Tyler Frush, and Jacob Wright comprised the team for the J-Hawks.
As the night wound down, Jesup finished 66th in the 4x100 Relay, with a time of 49.38 seconds. There were 91 teams entered in the event.
Kodi Mozingo, Brian Forsythe, Brian Zuck, and Ethan Pelton made up the team for Jesup.
In the final running event of the night, the J-Hawks finished 45th in the 4x400 Relay, with a time of 3:53. There were 78 teams competing.
Brady Mattson, Matt Mattson, Tyler Frush, and Jacob Wright ran for Jesup.
In the earlier field events, Brian Zuck threw the shot put a distance of 33 feet and 5.75 inches. Brian was 82nd out of 99 competitors.
Charles Clayton of Jesup finished 96th, with a heave of 25 feet, 10-1/2 inches.
Jesup Coach Brandon Zelle said, “Our team is definitely improved this season, We are a lot deeper, as far as talent on the team, and all-around we are stronger as a team.”
Jesup ran in the State Indoor Meet at the UNI-Dome on March 24.
The J-Hawks are scheduled to run in the Annual Vinton-Shellsburg Invitational at Vinton, on Friday, March 28, The meet starts at 5 PM.
The schedule gets busy right away, as Jesup will run at the Ed-Co Invitational at Edgewood, on Tuesday, April 1, starting at 5 PM.
The J-Hawks will run at Hudson, on Friday, April 4, beginning at 5 PM. |
